Happy Wednesday Words! May the rest of your week be as magical as the stars!

Amanda stared at the stars as her mentor adjusted the massive telescope. The night was clear, dotted by stars city lights always stole from her. She could stare at them forever…. Not.

She just wanted to head back already. She’d hiked miles carrying the stupid telescope, and she’d have to carry it back. Maybe she should break the telescope. A well-placed kick…

Her mentor swore, pressing his face deeper into the telescope’s eyepiece, his glasses mashed in between. “I just can’t see enough to verify the prophecy.”

The man was far too old to be doing this. Too old to think magic would return. He was the Temple of Science’s head scientist, for science’s sake.

“Amanda, you look.”

Now was the perfect time to knock over the telescope.

“Remember, the prophecy says The Defender will appear among Orion’s belt.”

The old man had set the telescope up okay. She was definitely looking at stars, but they were blurry.

“Do you see anything?”

She twisted the dial. “Now I’m ready,” she said as she focused on the blanket of stars beyond. Blinking, mesmerizing lights.

And between them, a red light slowly swirled around three stars.

“Wait,” she stumbled, pressing into the eyepiece as she zoomed in. A serpent face, a neck, wings, tail. “A dragon larger than stars?”

Her mentor broke down crying. “Thank science, the dragon of stars has returned to save our sun! Hurry, we must tell the others.”

Amanda ignored him. She couldn’t look away.
