Introducing yesterday’s flash fiction!
I glared down my arm into her furious eyes. She strained against my hand pressed into her mouth, but I kept her pegged to the ground, my knees and other arm keeping her arms and legs from throwing me off.
“You’re the one who placed the bet?” I seethed.
She tried to bite my hand, and I pressed down harder.
“They’re my boys,” I growled. “No one harms my sons.”
She whipped her head to the side, but I kept her crushed beneath me.
“Take the bet away.”
She couldn’t answer, so I pulled my hand away. But instead of promising, she cursed me. I pulled out my knife and held it to her delicate neck, and she stilled.
“Take the bet away.”
“No,” she spat. “They asked for it.”
I pressed the knife harder. “No one asks for a bet.”
An insane laugh slipped from her lips. “No one asks with words, sure. But they ask with actions. Ask them how they begged me for a bet.”
A little more pressure, and a slice of blood dripped onto the blade. She winced, still fighting me, but I was bigger, stronger, more trained. I’d been killing for longer than she’d been alive.
“What did they do?” I hissed.
She smirked. “They killed my father, nearly killed me. So I placed the bet. Do you wonder who will find them first?”
I sliced her throat. I didn’t need to bet. Because I knew I’d destroy them all to protect my family.
